Breakout Session Plan

Objective:

Explore new and reimagined ideas in using AI chatbots for qualitative interviews and survey data collection.

Introduction & Objectives (10 minutes)

• Opening Remarks
• Welcome the participants and brief intros
• Outline the session's objectives: discussing AI chatbots as interviewers, exploring novel concepts, and reimagining traditional approaches to survey data collection.
• Set Expectations:
  • Two key questions for the report-out: (1) What new concept was discussed? (2) What old idea was reimagined?

Demo of AI Chatbot (10 minutes)

• Live Demonstration: Quick demo of an AI voice chatbot or text-based agent (from web app).
• Encourage attendees to try it out or follow along with you.
• Highlight key features such as dynamic probing, active listening, and personalized follow-up questions.

Overview of AI Chatbots in Research (15 minutes)

• Discuss the shared articles on the potential of AI chatbots in research.
• Open the floor for thoughts on the demo and its applications in attendees' fields.

Breakout Discussion (40 minutes)

• Pose the two breakout questions to the group:
  • New Concept: What concept or idea came up in your discussion that was new or surprising to you?
  • Reimagined Idea: What traditional concept of survey interviewing was reimagined through the use of AI chatbots?
• Encourage brainstorming and open discussion on potential AI-driven tools for their own work.

Wrap-Up (5 minutes)

• Summarize key takeaways.
• Reiterate the role of AI chatbots in enhancing research.
• Remind participants that the note takers will compile and share a summary of all breakout sessions.
